What We Do

Many people’s religious lives are greatly enriched through the media. They carry news and information about religious events, ideas, and personalities; they serve as vehicles for evangelization, and opportunities for worship to person confined to their homes or to institutions.” Ethics in Communications, Pontifical Council for Social Communications (2000)

Ashley Zahorian, director and producer of Something Like Real, LLC, started making films on a friend’s camcorder during her childhood. After an internship, youth ministry position, and master’s degree in communication from Regent University, she started her own company. Her produced or directed works have won 13 awards including 2 Silver Tellies for Story/Field Producing Discovery Network’s FantomWorks.

Something Like Real Pictures is driven to produce good media to awaken viewers to the truth and beauty of the Gospel and the human person. The name Something Like Real Pictures emulates the truth that is only pointed to by media.

SLR Pictures work is always driven with a purpose. They began The Mass Box to help families with small children understand Mass better and film Awakening the Domestic Church, a free formation program funded by donations to provide a 200-week video series complete with discussion guides and daily reflections. Check out www.themassbox.com for The Mass Box’s weekly webisodes “Catholic Crafts with Clare,” where Clare and her family explain the Gospel-oriented crafts and www.awakeningthedomesticchurch.com for formation videos.

With such strong purpose combined with experience and talent, Zahorian is ready to continue her efforts in media to awaken even more viewers than already reached so far. She has won over 13 awards for produced or directed works including 2 Silver Tellies been awarded the Sliver Telly Award (Story Producer 2015 FantomWorks; Field Producer 2014 FantomWorks) and the ten-minute animated 3D short film The Best Gift for which she was director and sounds designer has won multiple awards.

“It is not technology which determines whether or not communication is authentic, but rather the human heart and our capacity to use wisely the means at our disposal… Communication, wherever and however it takes place, has opened up broader horizons for many people. This is a gift of God which involves a great responsibility.” Pope Francis, 50th World Day of Social Communications (2016)
